It is the mission of the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to increase opportunities and access to monetary assistance by helping students and their families seek, obtain and make best use to all financial resources. Our primary purpose is to provide financial assistance to all students who, without such aid, would be unable to attend college. Through literacy and guidance we support students with their transition to college and continue to make their academic aspirations attainable. While complying with all required regulations and guidelines we ensure equitable and consistent administration of over 70 million dollars annually from Federal, State, Institutional and Outside sources.
New! Blue Ribbon Program - Active Duty Grant
The Citadel is proud to offer up to 25 tuition grants to active duty service members that are enrolled in one of The Citadel's online undergraduate programs. To help minimize out-of-pocket costs, the tuition grant will cap tuition at $250 per credit hour. The grant does not include any additional fees and is offered on a first-come, first-serve basis per academic year. National Guard and Reservists in an active duty status are also eligible.
The institutional application for the Blue Ribbon Active Duty Grant should be submitted to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships at least 30 days before the start of the academic term in which you are seeking the grant.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Please complete the 2021-2022 FAFSA for the current 2021-22 academic year (fall/spring/summer) at fafsa.ed.gov using our federal school code 003423. The 2022-23 FAFSA application is NOW available and should be filed for the upcoming academic year (beginning with the Fall 2022 term). You must complete and submit an annual FAFSA after October 1st to be considered for federal and state financial aid programs and for the majority of scholarships in our Citadel program. Once our office has your FAFSA on file, that school year's financial aid account is opened. Financial aid award notices begin in December.
Incoming freshmen in the Corps of Cadets: Our office will send email communications beginning in December using the email address provided on the FAFSA. Please immediately complete requests for additional paperwork; delays on your part can hinder your ability to receive aid from programs with limited funding such as grants and scholarships.
Upperclassmen in the Corps of Cadets: It is important to file the FAFSA each year to qualify for federal and state financial aid and to be considered for many of our Citadel scholarships. You must also complete a brief, electronic application each year to be considered for the majority of scholarships in The Citadel Scholarship Program. To understand more, please read Common FAFSA Myths.
College Transfer Program Students and Graduate Students must be in a degree program and enrolled at least part-time (6 credit hours for undergraduates and 4.5 credit hours for graduate students) to be eligible for federal financial aid. Graduate Certificate Students are not eligible for federal financial aid.
The 2022-2023 Upperclass Cadet Scholarship Application Opens March 2022
